Japanese shares rose, with the Topix index erasing yesterday��s decline, as energy explorers and insurance companies led the advance.
Japan Drilling Co. climbed 2.4 percent and T&D Holdings, Inc., a life insurer, gained 2.1 percent. Seven & I Holdings Co., an operator of convenience stores, added 0.9 percent on a report its quarterly operating profit probably rose to a record even after the nation��s sales tax increased in April. Daiichi Sankyo Co., a drugmaker, gained 1.7 percent after its rating was raised at Mizuho Securities Co.
The Topix added 0.5 percent to 1,235.15 at the break in Tokyo after dropping 0.5 percent yesterday. All but two of the gauge��s 33 industry groups climbed today. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average increased 0.3 percent to 15,037.40. The yen was little changed at 102.32 per dollar.
