The Topix gained 1 percent to 1,213.12 as of 9:03 a.m. in Tokyo, with all but one of the gauge��s 33 industry groups climbing. The measure added 3.4 percent in May, its first monthly advance this year. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average increased 1.2 percent today to 14,805.38.
China��s Purchasing Managers�� Index rose to 50.8 in May, the National Bureau of Statistics and China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing said yesterday in Beijing, compared with the 50.7 median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. The reading is the highest since December, with numbers above 50 indicating expansion. Separately, policy makers said they will reduce some lenders�� reserve-requirement ratios in the latest step to support growth in the world��s second-largest economy.
